SIMON Cowell’s X Factor has saved ITV from financial meltdown with a £70million boost.

The decision to move the results show to Sunday nights has lifted ratings to record levels. It will also rake in an extra £25m in advertising income by the end of the series.

Experts predict this year’s final will be seen by 20m viewers and could generate millions more.

An insider said: “ITV really have a lot to thank Simon for. He’s saved all their necks.”

Shares in ITV plc rose 8% yesterday after a forecast of a surprise upturn in advertising next month – the first monthly gain since the first half of 2008.
