MANDY IS SECOND LIFE STAR

DAILY STAR SUNDAY
ABOVE: Peter Mandelson embraces Second Life
18th January 2009

WEB campaigning played a major role in Barack Obama’s US election victory.

Now Labour is reaching out to the online community by – wait for it – sticking Peter Mandelson into  v.

Is this wise? Of course Labour needs to find new media outlets and using a huge social site is a good way to promote a blog (LabourList.org).

But in tough economic times I’m not sure the Business Secretary needs any distractions.

“Have you got those figures on aid to small firms, Mandy?”

“Not now, Gordon… I’m on the grid with Jimmy Carr and Dave Barmy.”

Sadly, the chaps in charge of Mandy’s rendering seem to have messed up.

Designing a realistic avatar on Second Life isn’t quite the name of the game – contrast real and virtual in most games and you’ll find the user drops ten years and twice as many pounds.

But not Mandy – he looks in the game just like he does on the telly.

Rumours suggest he has already found a patch of land on which to build his virtual home and applied for an interest-free loan in Linden Dollars…

Other reports suggest that Chancellor Alistair Darling was originally chosen to front the blog but the game’s avatar creator wouldn’t allow for different coloured eyebrows and hair.

How will the Tories respond? Sources say David Cameron is to provide the voice for Scolar Visari, leader of the Helghast Empire in the forthcoming Killzone 2.

Meanwhile there’s good news for Fallout 3 fans as the game is to get three new downloadable missions for the 360 and PC.

One download will be released this month, one next month and one the month after that.

Each one is expected to cost 800 Microsoft Points.

The first pack, Operation Anchorage, throws players into the frozen wastes of Alaska where you must battle to save what’s left of civilisation from an invading Communist Chinese army.
