ALBUM - CRAIG DAVID: TRUST ME

ABOVE: Craig David
8th October 2007

By Sarah-Louise James

Playlist have had an early listen to Craig David's forthcoming album Trust Me, out on November 12.

The honey-voiced crooner never strays far from his tried and tested themes of love and heartbreak, but who cares when he bestows grooves as funksome and slinky as this.

Good to see the newly beefed-up tunesmith's sensitive streak hasn't disappeared along with the skinny arms and goatee.

Nice to have you back, sir.

Hot Stuff - The first single, out on November 5, and a good choice. David Bowie fans like our James might tear their hair out when they hear the Let's Dance sample but others will hit the dancefloor and bump and grind for Britain.

6 Of 1 Thing - All about a lady friend who's bamboozling Craig's brain with her hot and cold ways.

Women! This funky, dancefloor rumbler has a splash of South American spice.

Friday Night - You know that feeling. It's the start of the weekend, you should be out having it large, but you're not you're stuck in front of Jonathan Ross eating toast. Craig laments this state of affairs over slinky mid-tempo arrangement.

Awkward - An old skool soul toe-tapper with Craig's voice as smooth and rich as melted Dairy Milk. The dreamy Motown-inspired chorus make this 2007's Is There Any Justice.

Just A Reminder - Chilled and jazzy retro rumbler with a touch of the I Just Called To Say I Love You About It.

Officially Yours - A cute ballad with a bouncy beat and delicate guitars as Craig goes on record to confirm his love for his lady.

Kinda Girl For Me - Shamelessly romantic ditty which samples Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross's You Are Everything.

She's On Fire - Craig gets his vocoder out, blasts out the bass, gives it a bit of Reeewind, and even chucks in a dash of reggae for good measure. Got to be a single.

Don't Play With Our Love - Echoes of Prince's Sexy MF and a Cuban breakdown that wannabe Sex And The City types will sashay on their Manolos to.

Top Of The Hill - Even if you come from a grotty background you can make it if you put your mind to it. Every album needs one of these. Nice, atmospheric harmonies.

This Is The Girl - Killer Top 20 hit with Kano.
