DAVID HAYE has told Wladimir Klitschko he is not interested in fighting him in front of “a load of boring Germans”.
Ukrainian Klitschko defends his IBF and WBO world heavyweight titles against Eddie Chambers in front of 50,000 fans in Dusseldorf tomorrow.
But Londoner Haye, 29, insists a world heavyweight title unification clash against Klitschko in front of a
massive crowd in Germany does not appeal to him.
WBA champion Haye defends his title against American John Ruiz in Manchester on April 3 and hopes
victory will set up a fight with Wladimir or his elder brother Vitali, the WBC king.
Haye, whose fight against Ruiz is heading for a 19,000 sell-out, had to pull out of fighting Wladimir last June because of a back injury and hopes a future showdown can take place in Britain.
He said: “Wladimir is not the draw he thinks he is. When we were going to fight he said to me, ‘You bring nothing to the table’.
“But HBO pulled the plug completely when I pulled out injured and his fight against Ruslan Chagaev was not covered at all.
“If he fights me, it will be on TV all over the world, not just in Germany, but he has got to realise that and take that into consideration.
“Ideally I would love the fights to happen over here because everyone knows in Germany the atmosphere is just dull.
“I would hate to have one of my defining fights in front of a dull atmosphere and a load of boring Germans.”
Haye said of the Ruiz clash: “I’m expecting an ugly fight and I’m expecting him to try and butt me,
hit me low and dislocate shoulders.
“But it won’t be like my last fight. We will be able to have a slug-fest because he’s the same height as
me so it will be a lot more exciting.” Haye-Ruiz will be shown exclusively on Sky Box Office.
