ITALIANS ARE MOST ROMANTIC

ABOVE: Hot-blooded Italians, like Gino D'Acampo, 33, top the world's lovers
9th February 2010

By Nadine Linge

Hot-blooded Italians are the most romantic nationality but Americans are the worst lovers around.

Stars such as I’m A Celebrity champ Gino D’Acampo, 33, and actress Monica Bellucci, 45, below, were voted for by 44% of people asked to name the world’s top lovers. The French came second with 22% and the English were third with 14% of the vote.

In fourth place were sultry Spaniards, followed by Irish lovers with 3%.

But according to the research for chocolate brand Rolo, Americans are considered the least romantic nation, with just 1% voting them top lovers. Many cited 47-year-old Tom Cruise’s embarrassing antics – like the time he shouted about his love for Katie Holmes, 31, on 56-year-old Oprah Winfrey’s chat show – as one of their biggest turn-offs.

The survey also found more than half of Brits would be upset if their partner forgot Valentine’s Day, while a quarter said their other half gives them a special romantic day every month.

Psychologist Anjula Mutanda says: “It’s the small gestures that mean the world to your partner.

“Regular effort is more effective in ensuring your relationship lasts than a single grand gesture which is more often than not short-lived.”
