CARRAGHER AND GERRARD: LIVERPOOL CAN'T AFFORD MORE SLIP-UPS

ABOVE: Carragher and Gerrard have warned that Liverpool cannot afford any more slip-ups
9th February 2010

By Chris Harper

JAMIE Carragher and Steven Gerrard have warned that Liverpool cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to maintain their place in the top four.

Liverpool’s derby win over Everton lifted them back up into the Champions League spots, but defeat at Arsenal tomorrow will knock their hopes of fighting off Spurs, Manchester City and Aston Villa for that final European berth.

Carragher knows the feel-good factor from Saturday will soon fade if they blow the chance to close to within two points of third-place Arsenal. He said: “In one sense, it is more than three points because everyone is buzzing in the dressing room, but that can quickly change if we don’t build on this result.

“It’s important that we keep the feel-good factor that we’ve got until after the Arsenal game, a nd if that is to happen, we’ll have to make sure we get a good result."

“Arsenal have been at the Emirates for a few years and I don’t think we’ve had a win there yet. It’s something we’re going to have to do sooner or later – and hopefully Wednesday will be the time.”

Gerrard echoed Carragher’s thoughts, adding: “We have used beating Everton as a platform in thepast and we’ve got to do it again. We have got to try and keep this run going, as we can’t afford any slip-ups. There are a couple of very tough games coming up, but if we can show what we have done in the last six games, I don’t see why we can’t maintain it.”
