ANTI-GAY AD IS 'OFFENSIVE'
GAY football supporters have branded a new FA anti- homophobia ad “offensive” because of its sick taunts.
The mini film features a yob fan on his way to a football match abusing workers, train passengers and a newspaper seller.[>
He then blasts gays when he gets to the game. The advert ends with the slogan: “This behaviour is unacceptable here.”[>
Retired gay Brit basketball star John Amaechi, 39, slated the film as “vulgar and horrific”, saying it fails to tackle the issue of homophobia in football.[>
Others say it reinforces gay stereotypes because one victim cowers and fails to challenge the thug.[>
Football chiefs have spent two years dreaming up the online viral advert but have now cancelled its big launch at Wembley stadium this Thursday.[>
Peter Tatchell, 58, of gay rights group OutRage! said: “I don’t object to the use of anti-gay abuse to make a point but it was a mistake to not involve gay organisations in planning the video script.”[>
A spokesman for the Football Association said: “The FA is committed to its stated aims of tackling homophobia in football.”[>
