PETER FOX SHOWED FANTASTIC PLAY

ABOVE: Peter Fox celebrates scoring a try
8th February 2010

By Mike Platt

COACH Justin Morgan blasted Hull KR’s attack after he saw them claim fi ve tries to start their campaign with a comfortable win.

England wing Peter Fox scored twice in the opening six minutes and further tries from Jake Webster, Michael Dobson and Clint Newton wrapped it up.

“Our attack was probably the worst part of our game,” claimed Morgan, who started with Paul Cooke and Webster in unfamiliar positions.

“A new combination in a key position is going to take some time but it’s a work in progress. Our defence was excellent and our pack worked exceptionally well.”

Salford coach Shaun McRae lamented his side’s terrible start. “We did tremendously well for most of the game but the first seven of 10 sets belonged to Hull KR,” he said.

“We just couldn’t seem to get hold of the ball and  pressure built. A couple of early tries gave them confidence.”

Fox finished off a sweeping move involving Dobson and Cooke to get Rovers off to a fl ying start in their first set.

A second try for Fox followed moments later as he barged aside Karl Fitzpatrick to touch down in the corner.

However, Salford cut the defi cit thanks to a moment of magic from close-season signing Daniel Holdsworth. The Australian’s pass wrong-footed the home defence and Ashley Gibson

found Matty Smith to race in under the posts.

The try gave Salford hope but Webster clung on to Dobson’s pass to restore Hull KR’s 12-point cushion just before the break.

A further score arrived out of the blue though when a ricocheted kick fell to Newton, who released Dobson for a clear run to the line.

Newton then got on the score sheet himself as he powered over from three yards before Salford claimed

a consolation breakaway try from Jodie Broughton.
