WILLIAMSON SCORES LATE FOR REVENGE ON DERBY

ABOVE: Williamson scores late for revenge on Derby
8th February 2010

By Chris McKenna

SHEFF UTD 1 DERBY 1

Lee Williamson got one back on Derby when he fired in a late equaliser for Sheffield United to deny the struggling Rams three vital points.

The midfielder was on the books at Pride Park when he was 15 but was released and deemed not good enough to make the grade.

But he got revenge when substitute Henri Camara slid the ball into his path to smash the ball home from just inside the area in injury-time.

He said: “It felt really good to get a goal against them, obviously it would have been better to get the winner, but I will take the draw.

“I live in Derby and I played for them when I was 15, but I got released just before I went onto the scholarship programme.

“I was a Derby fan and a season ticket holder until I got released – it can make you go off a team.”

Robbie Savage put the visitors in front in the 17th minute with a 25-yard strike to grab only his second goal of the season.

Then when it looked like Derby would be taking all three points home, Williamson stepped up to smash in the equaliser.

The draw stopped the run of two straight defeats for Sheffield United and Williamson is hoping they can regroup and get back in the play-off hunt.

But Derby boss Nigel Clough rued his side’s missed chances.

He said: “The thing that cost us was not getting another goal in the first half.

“We had a few good opportunities.

“We did carry the performance on from last week’s win over Forest.

“Our front men led the line very well and everyone follows them.”
