HALLFREDSSON GOES TO TOWN

ABOVE: Halfredsson wants to stay on
8th February 2010

By Jason Mellor

BARNSLEY 1 WATFORD 0

Emil hallfredsson would love to stay at Barnsley after revealing he’s become the town’s unofficial tour guide.

The Iceland international sealed back-to-back wins for the Tykes with his third goal of a season’s loan from Italian club Reggina.

Hallfredsson, who cut inside Adrian Mariappa to beat keeper Scott Loach at his near post at the start of the second half, has settled in effortlessly at Oakwell.

The 25-year-old former Spurs midfielder celebrated his winner with a lazy Sunday’s sight-seeing around his adopted home.

He said: “My girlfriend’s sister is visiting from Iceland, so we’ve been showing her all the sights.

“I’m acting as a tour guide, so we’re going to the zoo.

“There are plenty of places to recommend for us all to go and see and I’m happy to show her round because it’s a nice area and I’ve settled well.

“I’m happy here and I’d consider staying for longer if there was an offer to stay beyond my loan deal because I’m playing regularly and there’s no reason why we can’t get into the play-offs.”

Barnsley will be without Ryan Shotton at Middlesbrough tomorrow after he earned a late red card for a wild lunge at Lloyd Doyley.

Boss Mark Robins said: “I’ve told Ryan he can be a Premier League regular if he ups his concentration levels.

“It’s a big disappointment that we won’t have him against Middlesbrough and the one thing to remind him not to do it again is that he’ll be losing a bit of money this week.”

Watford are without an away win for nearly four months which is a concern for defender Mariappa.

He said: “It’s hard to put a finger on why we’ve been getting the recent away results we have, but we’ve not been as consistent as we’d have liked.”
