DVD REVIEW: MALICE IN WONDERLAND

Malice in Wonderland (15)

Brit director Simon Fellows delivers a fascinating low-budget take on Lewis Carroll.

A weird underworld opens up for US student Maggie Grace when she is knocked down in a London underpass by Danny Dyer’s black cab.

She meets a bizarre line-up of rogues and bad guys with inventive riffs on the classic characters from Alice in Wonderland.

The merry mixture of thrills, suspense, and seriously strange characters makes for very enjoyable offbeat entertainment.

And there is a splendidly creepy turn from Nathaniel Parker as a dangerous but effete gangland kingpin.

VERDICT: 7/10
