FORREST GRIFFIN PUTS HONEYMOON ON HOLD FOR TITO ORTIZ FIGHT

FORREST Griffin’s new wife didn’t see quite as much of him as she wanted on their honeymoon.

Instead of having a full and proper fortnight of bliss, ­Griffin brought an abrupt end to it all after a call to climb back into the Octagon.

But it all turned out well as he defeated Tito ­Ortiz at UFC 106 in Las Vegas at the weekend to make it 1-1 in their head-to-head ­battles.

Griffin, 30, was enjoying his ­honeymoon when a call from UFC president Dana White resulted in him clashing once again with Ortiz.

Ortiz was due to meet Mark Coleman but ‘The Hammer’ had to pull out of the co-main event with knee ligament ­damage.

Hence the call to Griffin, who only three weeks ago broke his right foot in ­practice.

Griffin said: “As soon as I got the call, I cut the honeymoon short and started training.”

He did the business, too, with a split points decision.

Lester Griffin, no relation to Forrest, scored the bout 30-27 for Griffin, the winner of season one of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’.

Marcos Rosales had it 29-28 for Griffin, while judge Glenn Trowbridge ruled it 29-28 in ­favour of Ortiz.

Ortiz was furious, saying: “I thought I won the fight. I thought I won the first round and the second round.

“Regarding the judging, I couldn’t believe that judge who had it 30-27 for Griffin. Was he f*****g blind or something?”

Now the pair look set for a third clash which, intriguingly, could come after series 11 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’. Filming begins in January.

Immediately after Saturday’s bout, Oritz began lobbying for himself and Griffin to be chosen as coaches for the series.

And there was a broadside for British welterweight star Dan Hardy who claimed a great win over Mike Swick last week.

That victory, at UFC 105 in Manchester, has earned him a tilt at champion Georges ­St-Pierre in the New Year.

But Josh Koscheck, who ­submitted Anthony Johnson with a rear naked choke in the second at UFC 106, is after Hardy.

Koscheck said: “He ain’t fought ­nobody like me.

“I’m the No.1 freaking ­contender in this weight ­division.”
