BRADY'S PICK OF THE BUNCH

ABOVE: Tom Brady was the star attraction at Wembley last night
26th October 2009

By David Yuill

THE NFL returned to London with a bang last night.

Megastar Tom Brady put the New England Patriots on course for a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It completed a bad day for the Glazer family – who own the lame Buccs – having also seen Manchester United beaten by Liverpool at Anfield.

The Buccs suffered their seventh straight loss of the season – closer to Portsmouth’s form than United’s. Most of the 84,250 Wembley crowd expected the Boston-based side – owned by the Kraft brothers – to rack up a cricket score against Glazer’s whipping boys – but boy do the Yanks know how to put on a great party.

They make the 60-minute game last all evening and pack it out with entertainment.

The next-to-naked cheerleaders were as well-supported as the players and flaunted their stuff around the pitch throughout.

The pre-match saw fl ame-throwers, fireworks, chart-topping Calvin Harris followed by US star Toni Braxton and opera singer Katherine Jenkins.

The Patriots stole their early lead before Brady got his boots dirty. Defence-man Brandon Meri- weather did the damage after just 150 seconds when he intercepted a pass from Buccs quarterback Josh Jackson to run home the first score and make it 7-0.

It was 14-0 with Brady’s second touch of the ball as he showed why he is billed as the best quarterback in NFL history.

A 30-yard pass put him in place to tee-up Wes Welker who ran home at the end of the first quarter. Brady made his second touchdown pass at the start of the second quarter thanks to a 54-yard run from wide receiver Sam Aiken who made it 21-0.

The Buccs then sprung a surprise of their own – Josh Johnson’s 33- yard throw finding Antonio Bryant to make it 21-7 at half-time. Brady got the Patriots back in business with a fourth touchdown, picking out Benjamin Watson from 35 yards to stroll home for 28-7 soon after the restart.

Laurence Maroney drove home Patriots’ fifth touchdown to make it 35-7 after a 90-yard drive from the unstoppable Brady.
