ALBUM - MICHAEL JACKSON: THIS IS IT

ABOVE: Jacko's posthumous album is a soulful treat for his fans
23rd October 2009

By Sarah-Louise James

FORGET the furore over whether MJ tea-leafed the song from Paul Anka (who?) or not – the title track has got MJ classic written all over it.

Sweet, low-key, soulful, a certain 80s-esque je ne sais quoi...

Elsewhere, the previously unreleased stuff amounts to a She’s Out Of My Life demo, a Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’demo, a Beat It demo and Planet Earth, which is a poem.

Don’t get us wrong, listening to early workings of Jacko’s classic hits has its appeal, but a demo is a demo for a reason. It ain’t finished yet!

And you can’t help but feel a bit short-changed after listening to the 18 songs on here when you bear in mind there are allegedly gazillions of unreleased tracks languishing in the MJ archive.

This is a good album for the tweens and teens who had never heard of Jacko before his untimely recent death and would like to find out what all this King Of Pop malarkey is about. MJ fanatics – and there are lots of ‘em – might like it, too.
