PAULA'S NEW LOW

ABOVE: An emotional Paula crosses the finish line
2nd November 2009

By Brendan Abbott

PAULA RADCLIFFE suffered another injury scare after finishing a disappointing fourth in the New York marathon.

The defending champion and current world record holder, who had never lost a non-Olympic marathon, was dropped from the leading pack after 22 miles and was clearly in pain as she crossed the finish line.

Derartu Tulu, of Ethiopia, won the race in 2hrs:28.52, which was more than 30 seconds faster than Radcliffe’s time.
