SOLDIER'S TRIBUTE

ABOVE: Sgt Phillip Scott
7th November 2009

By Brendan Abbott

A BRITISH soldier who died in Afghanistan was remembered yesterday as the “toughest of men and the gentlest of friends”.

Commanding officer Lt Col Nick Kitson paid the tribute after Sgt Phillip Scott, 30, of 3rd Battalion The Rifles, was killed by an explosion near Sangin in Helmand Province on Thursday.

He leaves a wife Ellen and children Ellie, three, and Michael, one. Ellen said: “He was a very brave man, loved by all his family, and a dear husband.”
