CAM VOWS TO GIVE BRITS A SAY
DAVID Cameron has pledged to stop more powers being moved from Britain to Brussells without a referendum.
The Tory leader said he would even change the law if he were elected.[>
[>
Mr Cameron made his promise after admitting that his original campaign for a vote on the Lisbon Treaty is now no longer possible.[>
[>
He added that his changes to the European Communities Act 1972 would also cover any attempts to sweep Britain into the single European currency.[>
[>
Mr Cameron said: “We will make sure this never, ever happens again.[>
[>
“Never again should it be possible for a British government to transfer power to the European Union without the say of the British people.”[>
[>
He admitted yesterday that the Tories’ campaign for a UK referendum had been left in tatters after the Czech Republic became the final EU member state to sign the document on Tuesday.[>
[>
[>
Now new posts of president and foreign minister for Europe will now be created.[>
[>
Signalling that he would like to go even further to protect the UK, he has promised to create a United Kingdom Sovereignty Bill.[>
[>
Because Britain does not have a written constitution this bill would make it clear that ultimate authority for the country lies with Westminster.[>
[>
Mr Cameron added: “This is about an assurance that the final word on our laws is here in Britain.”[>
