SPREADING THE GLOVE!

ABOVE: Olympic charm James DeGale is backing the charity even next month
31st October 2009

By Kevin Francis

SOME of Britain's best amateur talent will be on show next month - all in the aid of charity.

London’s Ex-Boxers’ Association has teamed up with the Nordoff- Robbins Music Therapy charity for the event at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in the capital on November 23.

Billed as The Auld Enemy, England v Scotland, this is set to be the premier showcase for the future of British boxing and will feature some of our best hopes for ring gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics.

Some of the biggest names in the world of boxing are aiming to make this a spectacle that will display the
quality this country has to offer.

The night will be hosted by Olympic gold medallists Dick McTaggart, Terry Spinks and James DeGale.

And, with the likes of Sir Henry Cooper, John Conteh, Alan Minter and Ricky Hatton all involved, it promises to be a great night for a very good cause.

DeGale said: “We want to achieve Olympic gold on our own soil.

“We have some top boxers in this country at the moment working with the ABA. I’m proud to be associated with an event that is going to do so much for our Olympic hopes, and the future of British boxing.”

David Haye, who meets WBC world heavyweight champ Nicolay Valuev next Saturday, is also a keen supporter of the event.

He said: “I owe so much of where I am today to my time in amateur boxing and it’s great that British amateur boxing has a premiere event to showcase itself. Nordoff-Robbins is a charity I have always admired and combining the two will give young boxers a worthy cause to fight for.”
