Currently sitting top of the charts, Batman Arkham Asylum is an impressive action game in which the caped crusader battles The Joker and a raft of other offbeat villains within the confines of Gotham’s infamous madhouse. There’s great fighting, plenty of gadgets and stunning visuals and audio.4/5

DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY PSP, £24.99

Launched to celebrate 20 years of the franchise, Dissidia Final Fantasy features all the characters from the series scrapping it out.It’s a decent old tussle, especially as the PSP has a lack of quality software.

If you’re into one-on-one combat with flashy visuals, this is worth a look.4/5

METROID PRIME TRILOGY

Wii, £44.99A REAL treat for Metroid fans, this Trilogy edition of the franchise offers all three first person action titles for the Wii.

The controls are impressive, especially use of the nun-chuck, as Samus moves around a familiar world, using a grapple beam and morph ball.

This is the ideal opportunity to get into Metroid.1/5

OKTOBERFEST

DS, £19.99

JUST when you thought games couldn’t get any dafter, a publisher brings out Oktoberfest for the DS.

Yes, it’s named after the month-long German ale knees-up in Munich in which men in leather shorts down steins of strong continental sauce. And you’d have to be pretty drunk to play it, the title consisting of several mini-games, including finger-wrestling, a ring-the-bell strength test, beer-serving and Bavarian folk dancing.

It’s all utterly preposterous.
