LET'S WEALD THE AXE
FULL-TIME builder James Gray has warned Rotherham to get their hard hats ready for when they visit Wealdstone.
Gray, 31, spends his working hours getting his hands dirty putting up extensions.[>
[>
[>
But the Wealdstone defender is predicting nothing but destruction for Ronnie Moore’s League Two high-flyers tomorrow.[>
Gray said: “I definitely fancy our chances. They are a big, physical side but we’re going to have a good crack at it. [>
[>
“It’s the biggest game I’ve ever been involved in. I work for a local company called Harpenden Construction and my gaffer is a massive fan. He’ll be there.[>
[>
“We’re building an extension now. It’s boring work. Hopefully Sunday will be a bit more exciting!”[>
[>
Isthmian League Wealdstone are on a 17-match unbeaten run and their old boys include Stuart Pearce and Vinnie Jones.[>
[>
And Gray – who played schoolboy football in Rotherham – warned United there is plenty more talent in non-league. He said: “I saw my team, Sheffield Wednesday, the other night and they were garbage.[>
[>
“We’ve got players who would get into the Wednesday side, so Rotherham shouldn’t underestimate us tomorrow.[>
[>
[>
“I didn’t make it as a pro but I love non-league football. I’d rather watch a non-league game any day. [>
[>
“I can’t relate to the wages and egos in professional football. I see a lot of non-league footballers who are better than the pros.[>
[>
“It’s a fickle game, football. But I enjoy my job. I’ve always done manual labour. I’ve learned a lot.”[>
