LET'S WEALD THE AXE

FULL-TIME builder James Gray has warned Rotherham to get their hard hats ready for when they visit ­Wealdstone.

Gray, 31, spends his working hours getting his hands dirty putting up extensions.

But the Wealdstone defender is predicting nothing but destruction for Ronnie Moore’s League Two high-flyers tomorrow.

Gray said: “I definitely fancy our chances. They are a big, ­physical side but we’re going to have a good crack at it.

“It’s the biggest game I’ve ever been involved in. I work for a local company called Harpenden ­Construction and my gaffer is a massive fan. He’ll be there.

“We’re building an extension now. It’s boring work. ­Hopefully Sunday will be a bit more exciting!”

Isthmian League Wealdstone are on a 17-match unbeaten run and their old boys include Stuart Pearce and Vinnie Jones.

And Gray – who played schoolboy football in Rotherham – warned United there is plenty more talent in non-league. He said: “I saw my team, Sheffield Wednesday, the ­other night and they were garbage.

“We’ve got players who would get into the Wednesday side, so ­Rotherham shouldn’t ­underestimate us tomorrow.

“I didn’t make it as a pro but I love non-league football. I’d rather watch a non-league game any day.

“I can’t relate to the wages and egos in professional ­football. I see a lot of non-league ­footballers who are better than the pros.

“It’s a fickle game, football. But I enjoy my job. I’ve always done ­manual labour. I’ve learned a lot.”
